becoming a member

Becoming a member of The United Methodist Church and St. Matthews by the Sea means that you are professing Jesus Christ as Savior and promise to serve him as your Lord. Members also vow to support the ministries of the church through their prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.  

There are some different types of membership offered in the United Methodist Church. Please look at the following and see what may be right for you:


Professing Member: If you have never been a member of a church and wish to becoming a professing member at St. Matthews By the Sea, you will profess your faith in Jesus Christ and vow to follow him and his teachings. Further, you vow to support the ministries of the church through your prayers, presence, gifts service, and witness. 


Affiliate Member: If you desire to become an Affiliate Member of St. Matthews by the Sea, that would mean that you are a professing member of another United Methodist Church. However, since you reside in the Fenwick Island area, visit frequently, etc. you desire to maintain your membership at another United Methodist Church while connecting with the life and ministry at St. Matthews by the Sea. 


Associate Member: If you desire to become an Associate Member of St. Matthews by the Sea, that would mean that you are a current a member of another Christian denomination outside of The United Methodist Church. However, since you reside in the Fenwick Island area, visit frequently, etc. you desire connect with the life and ministry at St. Matthews by the Sea while keeping your current denominational affiliation. 


Transfer Membership: If you desire to transfer your membership, that means you are member in any Protestant church but wish to become a member of St. Matthews By the Sea and participate in its ministries through your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness.
